Challenges

Water- and labor-intensive spraying with conventional knapsack sprayers causes delayed and ineffective crop protection, which leads to lost yields and income for smallholder farmers. Additionally, farmers who based remote areas that are moved from an established infrastructure, cannot easily access irrigation or energy services.

Solutions

Solar Village sells the Micron’s highly water-efficient sprayers and the Solar Village Battery Stick to rural smallholder farmers. This sprayer reduces water- and labor-requirements by 90% and reduces the time spent on pest management by 84% for men and 94% for women.

By providing a solar solution tailored to the power needs of the sprayer, Solar Village helps farmers avoid the use of environmentally unfriendly and expensive disposable batteries.
