According to the FAO’s 2015 five-year report, 80% of deforestation is due to agriculture. The world’s population is growing every year, so the question is how to feed the growing population.

By using our already inhabited spaces to grow our food, we can achieve food self-sufficiency. In addition to the food security aspect, urban agriculture also helps to preserve biodiversity as long as we no longer grow food in forests. Pascaline Yao is the founder of Agri’Ub. As agro-ecologist she holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in Bioethics. She evaluates agricultural projects and programmes, produces organic inputs and is also a horticulturist. Her solution includes horticulture, support for producers in urban agriculture and greenhouse farming, training in vegetable gardening, introduction of children to ecological agriculture, production of organic inputs (fertiliser and pesticide) and recycling.
