Challenges
The Ivorian pig industry has been impacted in recent years by health problems that have caused considerable economic losses to stakeholders. Challenges include: high levels of inbreeding in the industry causing malformations and other genetic diseases within the stock; the resurgence of diseases such as African swine fever; and the lack of awareness among farmers of the phenomenon of antibiotic resistance and the proper use of antibiotics.
Solutions
To meet these challenges, Grainothèque has launched a Health-tech platform for veterinary telemedicine and a food-tech solution for formulating animal feed and selling meat cuts and by-products in short circuits: Porc’Ivoir. The application turns farmers’ Android phones into a mobile vet that can detect disease, formulate feed according to the animal’s phenotypic stage, and check genetic crosses in just seconds. A truly intelligent solution for managing livestock farms in Africa from farm to fork!
