Challenges
Most farmers in the Lango sub-region rely on subsistence farming with 75% of the farmers being smallholder farmers. For both the smallholder farmer and the few who farm commercially, there’s a big gap with regard to support to achieve higher productivity. Although the region is fertile, over the years, the soils have been depleted and there’s an increased need for inputs that would increase productivity. Unfortunately, the majority of farmers have no access to quality and affordable inputs including seeds, fertilizers and crop protection, lack knowledge on good agronomic practices, have poor post-harvest management and limited access to good markets for their agricultural produce.
Solutions
Agrisol Africa Ltd provides farmers with access to innovative, sustainable and high-quality products including seeds, commercial and fruit seedlings, fertilizers and crop protection products for climate-friendly agriculture, irrigation kits and agricultural equipment. Agrisol’s business model takes on an inclusive approach with the firm intentionally seeking to empower and work with women and people living with disabilities within the region. Agrisol also provides free extension services to farmers to educate them on agronomic farming practices and empower them to share with other farmers. Agrisol also provides training on how farmers use readily available materials to produce their own biofertilizer which greatly reduces the cost of inputs and supporting farmers with post-harvest management as well as access to markets for their agricultural produce.
