Challenges
In Zimbabwe, farmers struggle with getting their product to market due to poorly developed supply chains, a lack of distribution networks, and insufficient planning and knowledge about unintended environmental and social consequences.
Solutions
FarmHut Africa provides two solutions that improve farmers’ ability to get their products to markets: a digital marketplace and a logistic service. The logistic service matches rural farmers with logistic service providers and aggregates farmers’ demand for produce transportation, resulting in reduce GHG emissions, lower logistic fees for farmers, and a reliable service.
The digital marketplace, which is accessible through various mobile technologies, provides farmers with a place to sell their products. It also provides customers with information on water-saving and strategic agricultural practices. FarmHut Africa specifically targets women for the digital marketplace by involving them as local aggregators and marketing ambassadors.
