In Mozambique, there is a high demand for affordable and dependable poultry feed, but it is inaccessible for smallholder farmers because feed distribution is focused on big cities, not rural areas.
Solutions
Ovos De Ouro produces day-old chicks, eggs, layers (chickens that lay eggs), and feed. To ensure that smallholder farmers can afford the chicken feed, the innovator sells feed in smaller, more affordable bags instead of the large conventionally-sized bags. This ensures that even the smallest of farmers can afford to buy the feed. Ovos De Ouro has technical assistance officers and a veterinary officer, these experts constantly visit smallholder farmers to monitor their operations and provide extension services and advisory support.
